Let’s Talk Power
The 2019 Honda CR-V has a 2.4-liter inline-four under the hood that makes 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. You can opt for the available 1.5-liter turbo-four for a greater horsepower of 190 and 179 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 Pilot, on the other hand, is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that’s good for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 Pilot also plays host to a reworked nine-speed automatic transmission for smoother shifting over previous models, so don’t let older models deter you from looking at the 2019 model.
Keep It Cool with Cargo Space
The biggest difference with the CR-V and Pilot is the seating; the CR-V offers seating for five while the Pilot provides a third row that allows you to fit up to eight inside the cabin. Aside from seating capacity, the CR-V gives drivers 39.2 cubic feet of space with the second-row seat upright. Put them down for a total of 75.8 cubic feet of space. The 2019 Pilot is larger, and therefore offers more space. With all three rows upright, the back of the Pilot 16.5 cubic feet of space. Lay those back seats down and you’ll get 83.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and a whopping 109 cubic feet with the second row folded down. If you’re regularly hauling long gear, the Pilot will make things smoother, but the CR-V should provide plenty of cargo space on its own. The main difference here is whether or not you need third row seating.
Technology Face Off
When it comes to technology in the 2019 CR-V and Pilot, Honda keeps things similar between models. Both entry-level trims get a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth capabilities, USB ports, and 12-volt power outlets. Move up a trim from the base model and both the CR-V and Pilot come equipped with larger touchscreens; the CR-V offers a 7-inch display while the Pilot provides an 8-inch display. HondaLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Radio, and more round out the offerings in the two models once you move above the entry-level trims.
Sweet Safety Suite
In today’s day of hurry and scurry, you can’t have too many safety features. The Pilot offers Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise, and Auto High Beams standard, while those features are available on the EX and above. Blind Spot Monitoring is one safety features that comes on EX trims for both models.
