If you’re in the market for a hybrid vehicle, you have a lot more options today than you did even a few years ago. The Honda lineup has several hybrid models, with the new 2019 Insight and Accord Hybrid leading the pack. If you’re not sure which one is best for you, we’ve laid out the differences here.
When you’re ready to take home a new Honda, come see us at 2221 N Marine Boulevard in Jacksonville. We can help you get behind the wheel for less, and we’re also accepting trade ins! The Insight is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four that makes 107 horsepower, a propulsion electric motor that makes 129 horsepower, a generator motor, and a 60-cell lithium-ion battery pack. Net horsepower sits at 151 with this new model.
The Accord Hybrid has a 2.0-liter inline-four under the hood that’s paired to two electric motors. This sedan kicks up 212 horsepower, slightly more than the Insight. Both models store the power unit under the rear floor, freeing up space in the trunk.
The Insight is quick to take off thanks to plenty of torque and instant power when accelerating. There are four drive modes – Normal, Sport, Econ, and EV – allowing you to maximize fuel efficiency when needed and enjoy a little more oomph when you want it. Expect to enjoy 55/49 city/highway mpg in the LX and EX trims and 51/45 in the Touring.
The Accord also provides a speedy answer when moving from 0-60, and firm feedback makes you feel extra sporty as you sail it through twists and turns. EPA fuel economy ratings sit at 47/47 city/highway miles per gallon.
Inside the Insight, you’ll find the Honda Sensing suite of safety features comes standard, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, road departure mitigation, sign recognition, and more. A 5-inch infotainment screen is also included, but move up to the EX for an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, and more.
The Accord Hybrid offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard, along with wireless charging. You can upgrade to get the available hotspot offering, and Honda Sensing comes standard on this model as well. One feature we like in this hybrid model is the Head-Up display that shows you pertinent driving stats.
